Electrification of traffic is essential for Helsinki’s emission reduction goals

Low-emission traffic is an important goal for Helsinki, where traffic is responsible for about one-fifth of the carbon dioxide emissions. Increasing public charging opportunities contributes to the achievement of this goal.

Electrification of traffic is essential in achieving the 2030 carbon neutrality target set in the Helsinki City Strategy 2021–2025. Several Helsinki programmes promote the electrification of the vehicle fleet, including the Carbon Neutral Helsinki Action Plan, the Air Quality Plan of the City of Helsinki, Helsinki’s Parking Policy 2022 and the City of Helsinki Noise Abatement Action Plan.
