The city’s climate actions

Mitigating climate change is vital, but at the same time it also provides an opportunity to do things smarter. Helsinki’s aim is to become the most functional city in the world, to adapt to the changing climate and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. Being carbon-neutral will mean that Helsinki’s operations will no longer cause global warming.

Helsinki is part of the international Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance (CNCA), whose member cities are all striving to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 80–100 per cent by 2050 or sooner.
